This newborn session was the fastest (about 2 1/2 hours) and least messy session I think I have ever had. Sometimes we just have good timing. This little princess slept pretty much the entire time she was at my studio! Congrats Christie and Ricky you have a beautiful baby girl!

Here is a sneek peak for Laura and her gorgeous children, Tyson, Morgan and Mikayla!! Laura put a lot of thought into her session and had the children bring items that meant something to them. Mikayla loves to read so we photographed her with stacks of books. Morgan loves her dog and plays the violin. Tyson is a goalie, so we did a cool shot of him with his goalie pads. I can't wait for them to see the rest of their images!

Weekend Inspiration!

This past weekend I was able to slip away from the studio and attend the Professional Photographer's of Alberta annual convention. The speaker on Saturday was Lori Nordstrom http://www.nordstromphoto.com/ and it was very exciting for me as I have been a fan of hers for years. She also specializes in maternity and newborn photography! Although I have taken a break from photographing weddings listening to Jim Garner http://www.jgarnerphoto.com/ on Sunday was an inspiration, his work is truly exceptional! It was great to get away for one night and network with photographers from all over the province.

I do have some big plans for the future especially in the area of newborns which has become my specialty without me planning it that way.

The studio is VERY busy and this weekend I look forward to taking couple portraits for the 4th year in a row at the Airborne Christmas party. I can't believe the "season" is upon us already.

What I have been up to!

Well time is passing so quickly these days I just realized I haven't made a blog post for a couple of weeks.

I have had some interesting opportunities over the past few weeks. I was hired to take photographs of an oil rig which was quite an adventure involving mud an electric fence and hail! As well, I had the opportunity to follow the Minister of Advanced Education and Technology around a local mill for the mill and the government of Alberta. My images were used for a government press release!

September is probably my busiest month of the year so I will be working and posting a lot of images in the next while, stay tuned!

Bought A New Camera!

Well there are still some finishing touches to be made but we have moved into our new studio home!!! September is completely booked and October is starting to book up already so if you were hoping to have a fall session please call ASAP! I am excited for Fall this year (my favorite season) I am sure I can feel a chill in the air already.

Renovations on our house are still in progress, which has been somewhat stressful, but it's coming along. Hopefully we will get our flooring this week and then it's kitchen cabinet time!

One good thing about having my studio under renovation is that it gave me the opportunity to go to Tracy and Randy's gorgeous log home to take Syndey's newborn portraits. I don't think I have ever seen a more beautifully decorated nursery. Sydney is one lucky little girl.

Sorry I haven't posted much in the last month but progress on the new studio has been SLOW! and we have learned a few expensive lessons about hiring contractors!! It's looking like the studio won't be up and running until at least August 15th. We, of course, will still be able to operate "on-location".

Our house renovations probably won't be complete until the end of September. It's been an adventure for sure. One good thing is we have been away every weekend but one taking the boys to their BMX races all over Alberta and BC.

I will leave you with an image of my son winning a gold medal in a BMX race!!

Within the next few days I will be posting two beautiful newborn babies that I shot on location at their homes.

Well, we are going to be busy for the next few weeks! My studio and my residence is moving to the country! We bought 160 acres just off Nojack Road, it's about a 15 minute drive from Whitecourt. We will once again be renovating a garage (this one is a little bigger) into a studio. I am excited about the endless opportunities for outdoor portrait set ups as well!! Tanya Rae Photography will be CLOSEDas of June 20th and for the month of JULY while we prepare the new studio. We look forward to seeing all of our clients in our new location!! If you are hoping to book for a fall session please call first thing in August as September has already been booking! Have a great July!!

Graduation 2008

Well I apologize to all that have been waiting for me to post about GRAD! Here it is. This year I got to be the proud mom. Friday evening May 30th was the official Graduation ceremony. I wasn't able to take any photos during the ceremony as it was just too dark. My daughter, Jayelle and her long time friend Katie did the thank you to the parents speech. Jayelle dressed in a Marilyn Munroe style dress with her hair in an "old Hollywood" style, she had a lot of compliments. I wish I could have found more time to get some good images of her in that outfit.

The next day was the Grand March and the Prom. Jayelle opted to cut her hair off instead of getting an "updo". I will let the images speak for themselves. Congrats to all the grads!

I want to congratulate my friend Susan on her retirement from Dental Hygiene. Right now she is in Las Vegas celebrating!! I couldn't go along because of prior commitments so her and I had our own celebration. She drove all the way from Fort MacMurray to attend an outdoor concert in St. Albert with me. We were entertained by Aaron Pruchett, Johnnie Reid and Terri Clark and it was awesome!! I got some great photographs as we were in the 3rd row!! We are country music fans so we were lovin the 5 hours of music. Note for us next time , bring chairs!! Here are a few images of the show.

When I started my blog back in January I named it Tripods and Treadmills with the intention of not only posting about my business but also about my training for a 1/2 marathon. Along the way I have only made a few posts about running just because as usual, time was a factor! Well , on May 18th my friend and running partner Arleen and I completed our first official 1/2 marathon in Red Deer!!! It ended up being perfect weather, warm but not too hot and overcast, it even rained a few drops which was refreshing. We certainly didn't break any speed records but for us it was a great accomplishment and finishing was winning!

My Daughter ~ The Dancer

I have talked about my boys and their BMX biking so only fair that I post about my daughter as well. My daughter is a dancer, when she's not taking or teaching a dance class she's dancing around the room! April and May are the "dance" months in our house and always busy with festivals and recitals. This year my daughter will be graduating from high school , it's all a little bittersweet for me as this is the last year she will be involved in dance (to this degree anyway). As a surprise for her I am putting together a slideshow documenting her dance festival experience, from a somewhat photojournalistic approach. Here are some of the images I will use. Her last festival is this coming weekend and I hope to get some good shots of her with her students. I am so proud of my daughter Jayelle.

Excited About A New Look!!

I hired a designer to create a new look for me, I was skeptical because I am very picky and indecisive. On her third attempt I opened the file and said "yes, that's it"!! I am so pleased with the logo and the colors I chose work well. For those of you who are watching closely I also changed "photographics" to "photography", I have waffled back and forth with that over the years. Keep watching for new cards, magnets, stickers and other new marketing materials!

Saturday Spent at the Track!

This past Saturday the boys and I were up and on the road before 6 am. Once again we were travelling to Morley, AB ( west of Cochrane) to ride the indoor track. This time they weren't racing just getting in some training with Ken Cools. See kencools.com there is actually a photo with Mitchell in it. Anyway they got in some good practice and then we made the trek back to Whitecourt, what a long day. Here is a pic of my oldest son Mitchell.

BMX Bikes Will Travel

This past weekend I was on the road with my boys. They both race their BMX bikes. It was a road trip to Morley, AB about 30km's west of Cochrane, right at the foot of the beautiful Rocky Mountains. Morley is the home of the only indoor BMX track in Alberta. Sunday was already the 1st provincial race of the season!! The kids who live close to the track sure had the advantage being able to practice the last 4 months. Mitchell and Ethan were a little rusty. This year Ethan is racing in the 7 intermediate category and Mitchell is in the 15 intermediate. When all was said and done Ethan walked away with 3rd place this weekend and Mitchell was 4th. Mitch is anxious now to get back to the track for some winter training! Looks like we will be on the road earlier than we thought!

The Running Continues

So the training for the half marathon is well underway!! I just finished running 9 kms. It wasn't easy but it feels sooo good when you are finished. Usually we do our long runs on Sunday but because both my running partner and I have other committments on Sunday we did it today. The good news is for the first time since starting our training we were able to run outside, what a beautiful winter morning! Sunshine and +1 C.

Yesterday I photographed Tonya who is due to have a baby "anyday". Big sister Sasha was an absolute doll and loved working the camera. Tonya's mom was here too but we could only convince her to do a 3 generation "hands on the belly" shot. I think these are very special moments we captured for them.

San Francisco

I was lucky enough last week to enjoy a few days in the San Francisco area. The worst part was coming home to temperatures as low as -40 C. Wish I could have stayed a little longer. I will be sure to make my way back there someday soon. There is so much to see and the shopping ........needed more time to shop for sure!

Ready to Run!

Well, I am committed. My friend Arleen and myself have decided to start training for a half marathon. The marathon will take place in May in Red Deer, AB. I know what I am getting into as I have done this before 2 years ago. This morning we planned to run outside however at -20 degrees C we opted for the treadmills at the gym. Our 16 week training program officially starts January 27th. I am looking forward to the challenge and will keep you posted on how it's going!
